Jason Gallagher of The Stockbridge Restaurant is one of the Scottish cehfs taking part in Slow Food Week

Slow Food week starts today and lots of significant Scottish restaurants are running special menus or hosting events to mark the occasion.

The idea behind it is simple: Slow Food week celebrates the many wonders of good British food.

One of the major themes this year is the Chef Alliance in partnership with Highland Park, in which leading British chefs share their enthusiasm for local, sustainable ingredients. The chefs will champion what are being termed forgotten foods with special Slow Food UK menus.

Among the Scottish chefs taking part are Jason Gallagher of The Stockbridge Restaurant, Edinburgh; Craig Mckend and Jonny Kimber of The Edinburgh Larder Bistro; Neil Forbes at Cafe St Honoré, Edinburgh; Tom Lewis at the Monachyle Mhor Hotel, Lochearnhead, Perthshire; Tony Singh of Edinburgh’s Oloroso and Carina Contini of Centotre and the Scottish Cafe and Restaurant in Edinburgh.

The Continis will be hosting a five course dinner showcasing food from ten Scottish suppliers as well as food grown in their own kitchen garden at Casa San Lorenzo.

Former Chef of the Year Neil Forbes has also come up with a great looking menu which includes ingredients such as homemade bacon, Borders pigeon and Cora Linn cheese.

Just in case you needed any further encouragement, many of the restaurants will be pairing each course with a diferent Highland Park whisky.
