The interiors of the Chaopraya restaurants are never dull

Currently taking shape on Glasgow’s Buchanan Street, Chaopraya is being flagged up as the UK’s largest Thai restaurant. Scheduled to open mid-July and spread over all four floors of a Grade A-listed townhouse, it will feature a style bar, spacious dining area, four private dining rooms, a VIP bar and, because two bars are never enough, a chic champagne bar.

Looking out over the dining area, the one table Buddha Balcony is likely to be a popular feature for those who like to see and be seen.

Chaopraya already has branches across Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester and Sheffield but this is the company’s first excursion north of the border.

Named after one of Thailand’s most significant rivers, the company is spending some £2 million on the Glasgow branch. Diners can expect a gold leaf ceiling, large Buddha statues and enough general bling to blind even the most glamtastic of visitors.

Chaophraya’s menu will be made up of classic dishes originating from the different regions of Thailand. Prices will start from £6.95 for lunch and £9.95 for dinner. Typical dishes include Panang beef curry with lime leaves and coconut milk (£9.95); chilli and basil pork with green beans, garlic, onion and hot basil leaves (£9.95) and chicken pad Thai noodles with egg, beansprouts, carrots and spring onions.

If you can’t wait until mid-July to get stuck into some pad Thai then simply click here to see all of the Thai restaurants available through the 5pm table booking service.
