The braised red mullet served with pickled veg and warm potato salad at Sideways

They opened on Elderslie Street earlier this year but Sideways are fairly new to 5pm so we thought that we’d flag up their lovely coffeehouse, sarnie bar and bistro with a nifty blog post.

Despite only being on 5pm for a couple of months, Sideways has already racked up some stonking customer  reviews with the ‘fab food’, ‘excellent service’ and ‘value for money’ all being mentioned.

Writing in The Sunday Herald, Joanna Blythman has also been impressed by the staff who ‘greet you with personable service, buy their raw materials well, try to keep up with ethical considerations and yet still manage to serve you food you’re very happy to eat, all at an eminently approachable price.

Lunch options include top notch sarnies such as the honey, goat’s cheese, lemon and thyme or the char grilled chicken with garlic roasted tomatoes.

The evening menu is fun as well. Think along the lines of king prawns on tasted ciabatta; roast garlic and fresh pea risotto or the tremendous sounding garlic roasted chicken breast with truffled potatoes and salsa verde.

Daily specials might feature distinctly Scottish dishes like Finnan haddie.

Beers from local brewers such as William Bros are among the attractions.
