Those with common food allergies can now enjoy fresh, Scottish seafood at Glasgow’s Gamba

The number of people suffering from dietary allergies is on the rise and the smarter restaurants are catering for them.

One of the most popular restaurants on 5pm, Gamba is also one of Glasgow’s first restaurants to cater entirely for intolerances to gluten, dairy and lactose by introducing alternative ‘free from’ lunch and dinner a la carte menus.

Andy MacSween, Gamba’s manager, says, ‘The experience of dining out should be a memorable occasion for all, and we often found food allergies and sensitivities to be a barrier to many of our diners.’

To combat this, Gamba’s head chef and owner, Derek Marshall, has created full ‘free from’ menus rather than just offering additional alternative dishes.

MacSween continues: ‘We also understand that it can be uncomfortable for the customer to ask for alternative dishes, as they are putting themselves in the spotlight and we wanted to remove this element and present an entirely dedicated menu. For a lot of people, choosing to be dairy or gluten free is a lifestyle choice and we want to make that choice an easy one to stick to at Gamba.’

Popular choices on their menu include the gluten-free sashimi of yellowfin tuna with wasabi and soy while a popular dairy free option is the seared hand-dived king scallops and grilled lemon sole.
