Jamie Oliver’s Italian will be launching in Edinburgh on Sunday

This is a big weekend for significant restaurant openings in the Central Belt. Likely to cause the most media interest is the official opening of Jamie’s Italian at the newly revamped Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh on Sunday.

The popular telly chef has transformed the Supper Rooms which open out on to Rose Street. Unlike many other branches of Jamie’s Italian, you can book for parties of any size at the Edinburgh restaurant.

The new restaurant in the capital joins Jamie’s Italian in Glasgow. A third branch is planned for Aberdeen.

Less starry but with the potential to serve more customers, Chaophraya on Nelson Mandela Place in Glasgow launched last night.

Set over three floors of a city centre townhouse, the venture is said to be Europe’s largest Thai restaurant. Scottish-Thai fusion dishes are on the menu alongside trad Thai. We’ll have more details on Tuesday morning.
