Duck curry at Thairiffic

The 5pm blog is hearing very good things about the recently opened Thairiffic restaurant on Sauchiehall Street.

The new Thai has opened in the premises which housed the Jade Garden Chinese restaurant for roughly the last five hundred years and it is already generating an unusually positive buzz online.

All the green curries, tom yum soups and pad Thai stir fries that you would expect are present and correct along with a few dishes which are less commonly found on the more well trodden Thai restaurant path. The goong op Mr Din, a prawn casserole with glass noodles, garlic and ginger, may well be the fish ‘n’ chips of Chiang Mai but is certainly new to me.

The name could use a little more thought though. The 5pm blog loves a good pun and has fond memories of two Edinburgh restaurants called Thai Me Up and Love You Long Thai. We’re not so taken on Thairiffic but we do have the good grace to feel slightly rude in saying so.
