Some of Scotland’s top chefs are taking part at feastRen

The Scottish Food & Drink Fortnight gets underway tomorrow. Taking place since 2009, the annual celebration of the country’s fantastic produce includes a huge range of events from full on regional festivals to in-store tastings.

With more than 200 events taking place across Scotland, there are too many to list here but you can find them by location, date or type of event from this page of their website.

One of the most fun could be the feastRen festival organised by East Renfrewshire Council, Whole Foods Market Giffnock and The Cook School Scotland.

The event takes place over the next fortnight but this weekend’s highlights include a BBQ on Barrhead Main Street and a cooking demo from John Quigley, chef patron at Red Onion and a man who, in a previous life, has cooked for everyone from Guns ‘n’ Roses to Bryan Adams.

One of the biggest events will be the Dundee Flower and Food Festival which actually kicks off today. Cake fiends will be delighted to learn that Mary Berry, from the Great British Bakeoff, will be appearing at the show tomorrow. The Fabulous Baker Boys will be getting their hands floury on Sunday.

The event also features a chilli village dedicated to the spicy delights of the chilli plus numerous cookery demos and, of course, the fruit and veg growers competitions, a.k.a. Murder in the Allotments.

Back in the West, Taste Ayrshire launches for the first time tomorrow. Events taking place this weekend include a food bloggers conference; a game day at the Cook School in Kilmarnock and a celebration of the square sausage.

We also liked the sound of the heritage food tasting which takes place at the Burns Monument Centre on Sunday afternoon.
