Fringe star Tim Vine is among the performers supplying jokes and yolks

Undo your belts a notch or two because the wait is almost over. Foodies Festival kicks off in Edinburgh’s Inverleith Park tomorrow and it looks like being a humdinger. Whisper it, but, according to the weather forecast at the time of writing, there may even be sunshine over the course of the three day event.

This is the sixth year that Foodies has taken place in Edinburgh and, as ever, it’s a cracking mash-up of cookery demos from fine chefs; family entertainment; food and drink master classes plus oodles and oodles of great producers.

Displaying their skills in the Kitchen Theatre are local heroes such as the Michelin-starred Jeff Bland of The Balmoral Hotel; Great British Menu contestant Mark Greenaway; Mattia Camorani from Cucina at Hotel Missoni and Neil Forbes of Café St Honore.

As well as culinary lessons from the experts, Fringe acts Lucy Porter, Tim Vine and Stephen K Amos, who has competed on Celebrity Masterchef, will be donning chef hats and getting down to some culinary clowning.

Joining the chefs will be schoolgirl blogging sensation Martha Payne of NeverSeconds who will give a demo and talk about her experiences of writing about her daily school lunches.

New to Foodies this year is the Children’s Cookery Theatre, where youngsters will be encouraged to cook up a storm.  On Saturday and Sunday there will be all sorts of gastronomic experiments going on to keep the children occupied.

Also new is the City Beach – complete with sand, deckchairs and beach-huts selling ice-cream, tea and cocktails; Street Food Avenue – serving quality dishes from around the globe and the Great Taste Market – selling award-winning goods from the UK’s top producers.

Throughout the weekend there will be live music on the entertainment stage, including Fringe Festival performers The Blues Brothers and The Rat Pack.

The times of the master classes can all be found here if you want to plan your visit.
