From cakes to Moroccan meatballs, as much as possible is made on the premises at the Purple Pig in Tollcross.

If you are in the Tollcross area of Edinburgh, look out for the Purple Pig Cafe, a new venture which was recently launched by siblings Laura Watson and Jason Cole.

Located on Leven Street, in the premises which used to house Cafe Ruby, it’s a light, bright, comfortable space with, you guessed it, a purple pig in the window.

The pair are keen to cook as much as possible from scratch whether it be the pictured cakes or the early evening meals on offer such as the lamb and potato goulash or the sweetcorn fritters served with a tomato and chilli salsa. Incidentally, if you do go for a meal in the evening, the Purple Pig is BYOB.

Scottish sourcing shines out in dishes like the full breakfast which features toasted crumpets; poached egg; Stornoway black pudding and Ayrshire bacon.

Theyare also keen on supporting other local traders and buy ingredients such as the roast beef used in their Ploughman’s lunch from Saunderson’s, the award winning bakery just up the road.
