Lady Claire Macdonald: lifting the lid on 40 years at Kinloch Lodge

Look out for Lifting the Lid: A Life at Kinloch Lodge, Skye, the new book from cookery writer Lady Claire Macdonald.

Her 18th book, Lifting the Lid looks back over the last 40 years as Claire and her husband Godfrey have put Kinloch Lodge on Scotland’s culinary map. When the Macdonald’s first started the business, it was rather a neglected property. Today, it’s one of Scotland’s top hotels with a Michelin-starred restaurant.

As well as recipes that illustrate the popular dishes of each decade, the book details the highs and the lows of both the business and Claire’s personal life – from her newly wed days to her current status as one of Scotland’s most respected cooks and food writers.

Commenting on the launch of the book Claire Macdonald said; ‘I’ve thoroughly enjoyed writing 17 cook books over the years, but my aim with Lifting the Lid, was to share my story and show that despite what life might throw at you, a combination of hard work, passion and an incredible group of talented people, family and friends can be the recipe for success!  I hope the book inspires readers and that they can also enjoy trying some treasured recipes from decades gone by that spark memories as they have done for me.’

Lifting the Lid: A Life at Kinloch Lodge, Skye is published by Birlinn at £20.
