The Seadogs was scuttled at the weekend

The end of the Festivals in Edinburgh is usually marked by two things: fireworks at the Castle and restaurants closing their doors as the performers and all their audiences roll out of town. This year is no different.

A few weeks back, the blog was sorry to hear that Tony Singh was shutting down Oloroso. Over the weekend, David Ramsden’s Seadogs on Hanover Street announced that it was also going to the great kennel in the sky. The original Dogs remains open and, we hope, will continue to trade happily for a long time to come.

Fortunately, it’s not all about closures.

On a more positive note, The Scotsman’s Gaby Soutar enjoyed her meal at the newish Edinburgh Larder Bistro according to her review in Saturday’s magazine.

Moving to Glasgow, the 5pm blog recently welcomed Lychee Oriental to the 5pm fold. A smart, new Chinese on Mitchell Street, its menu is a happy mix of old faves like sweet ‘n’ sour chicken along with less often spotted dishes like the roast duck served with lychees and plum sauce.

Lychee Oriental has already notched up two ratings on the 5pm site which have handed it a fantastic score of 4.7/5.

They are currently offering a 20% discount on their a la carte menu if you book through 5pm.
