Team Locavore will be hosting a cookery workshop using local produce

Fast forward to next Friday and Plantedd, an online marketplace for plants, is organising a garden party in Glasgow Botanic Gardens in aid of the Greenfingers charity, who create gardens for children’s hospices.

As part of the garden party, Glasgow Locavore – the not-for-profit local food shop and community kitchen in Shawlands (we blogged about ‘em here) – will be doing a cookery workshop using local produce at 1pm and 4pm.

Other activities include a charity plant sale, gardening talks, children’s activities and, at 3pm, readings of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and The Tiny Seed by Colin McCredie. Older readers may also know him as DC Stuart Fraser in Taggart. Younger, much younger, readers may know Mr McRedie from the CBeebies show, Woolly and Tig.

The event is part of Social Media Week Glasgow and the organisers want to use gardening as a way to introduce social media to people who don’t normally use it.

It will also mark the official launch of Plantedd’s website. The company calls itself ‘an eBay for the things that you want to grow. We bring together plants, bulbs and seeds so that you can get them all on our website straight from the growers’.

The event takes place noon-6pm, Fri 28 September at Glasgow Botanic Gardens.
