Brian Maule in the kitchens at Chardon d’Or

With the summer holidays being but a dim memory (except possibly on the credit card statements), then destinations like Portugal probably aren’t at the front of your thoughts.

You could change all that on Friday 5th October when wine writer Tom Cannavan teams up with Brian Maule at Chardon d’Or on West Regent Street to discuss and sample Portuguese wines alongside a four course dinner.

Mr Cannavan was one of the earliest wine writers to take up residence on the Internet and has since shared his extensive wine knowledge on numerous newspaper and magazine columns, the telly and the radio. He is currently the resident wine lover of Fred MacAulay’s Radio Scotland show.

As well as running what many consider to be Glasgow’s finest French restaurant for years, Brian Maule’s claim to fame is his work with the famous Roux brothers at Le Gavroche. Chardon d’Or is one of the highest scoring restaurants on the 5pm site with customers giving the West Regent Street venue a rocking 4.4/5.

Together, Tom and Brian make a formidable team and promise to make next Friday a memorable evening.

After being awarded the title of Wine Journalist of the Year by the Portuguese wine industry in 2010/11, Tom was given the opportunity to travel the length and breadth of Portugal investigating their vineyards.

He has matched his hard earned wine knowledge with Brian’s culinary skills to produce a four course dinner paired with fantastic Portuguese wines.

The evening will begin at 7pm with a drinks reception. The cost is £60 per person.
