Burke and Hare’s death masks

It will soon be Hallowe’en and the streets will be filled with pint size goblins and ghouls. As a very enjoyable alternative to staying at home and being besieged by trick ‘n’ treaters, you may care to investigate the ghostly goings-on at Edinburgh’s Hotel du Vin.

Dining & drama

The hotel is hosting an evening of dining and drama. Featuring a three course meal with wine, the evening includes entertainment from actors who will perform the trial of Dr Knox from the Burke and Hare story. Diners get to be the judge and jury to deliver the verdict.

Naturally, the dinner will be held in the hotels’ Burke and Hare room which features a mural showing the gruesome twosome going about their work along with other memento mori.

Asylum

Helping with the spooky flavour is the fact that the Hotel du Vin building used to be a lunatic asylum.

The event will take place on Wednesday the 31st of October from 7pm until approximately 10pm.

Tickets are £45 (plus £1.35 booking fee) per person and you can book them here.

The last time the hotel ran this offer it was very popular so you might need to get a wriggle on.

Looking further into the future, Edinburgh’s Hotel du Vin is holding a champagne afternoon tea and spa day on Sunday 4th November; a Christmas Market on Thursday 6th December and a Christmas Flower Arranging and Champagne Afternoon Tea event on Saturday 8th December.

They can all be booked from here.

Truffle dinner

Naturally, in Glasgow, Hotel du Vin @ One Devonshire Gardens is just as busy. On the 29th of November, they are hosting a four course truffle dinner. Earlier in the month, on the 18th, they are holding a four course dinner matched with some of England’s finest sparkling wines.

Both events can be booked from here.
