Working up an appetite for the Alpine Cookery Theatre

The great outdoors is all fine and dandy but it’s not usually a subject which troubles the 5pm blog.

However, Scotland’s Outdoor, Ski and Snowboard Show, which is at the SECC, 20-21 October, has a gastronomic element to it this year.

The Alpine Cookery Theatre is running a series of demos, talks and tastings featuring the following chefs:

11:30 World class cuisine with John Quigley of Red Onion

12:30 Traditional Scottish cookery with Two Fat Ladies at the Buttery

13:30 Alpine cuisine and chalet hosting advice with Edinburgh New Town Cookery School

14:30 Gourmet Glaswegian dishes with Donald Munro

16:30 Winter cocktails and nibbles with Treacle Cocktail Bar

Famous stunts

To be honest, the outdoor pursuits stuff looks pretty cool as well. Glasgow-based pro cyclist and National Geographic Adventurer of the Year 2012, Danny MacAskill, will be performing some of his famous stunts.

There will also be displays by the current World Record holder for indoor kite flying; opportunities to try archery for those inspired by the Disney Pixar film Brave; an indoor cave to explore and a chance to discover falconry with World of Wings, Scotland’s largest birds of prey centre.

Sled dogs

Meanwhile, in the ski and snowboard area, visitors can watch live freestyle displays, meet sled dogs from the Cairngorms and relax in the après ski area, with a hot chocolate bar, mulled cocktail bar and DJ sets.

Sexy thermals

Visitors who bring their swimsuits can enjoy some bubbly in the hot tub Champagne bar, and anyone wanting to play dress up can rummage through a box in the main bar containing fun ski wear as well as lederhosen.

Apparently, there will also be fashion shows which will demonstrate that thermals can be sexy.
