Horses: causing a few problems for supermarkets

The papers have been having a field day with the horse meat burger contamination story. However, one 5pm restaurateur has been reaping the benefits of all the publicity.

Fred Berkmiller, chef patron at Edinburgh’s L’escargot Bleu and L’escargot Blanc, occasionally has horse meat on the menu and appears to be the go to guy for a quote whenever the subject of eating horse meat comes up.

Today, he has been quoted in both The Guardian and The Daily Mail. Your blogger was in L’escargot Bleu for lunch on Saturday. Horse was notable only by its absence from the menu but the pork rillettes were fantastic.

Helpfully, The Herald has printed an article outlining the countries where eating horse is acceptable and those where it is likely to make people pull a long face.
