The bar area at Blackwood's: sink into the sofas
The bar area at Blackwood’s: sink into the sofas

Last week, the 5pm Restaurants blog mentioned the launch of Blackwood’s Bar & Grill – a swish new restaurant specialising in Scottish produce which is now open for business in Edinburgh’s New Town.

While we sang the praises of the lamb, pork and steak produced by their Josper charcoal grill, we forgot to mention their afternoon tea.

Served Monday to Saturday, 3pm-6pm, it features sandwiches, freshly baked scones with clotted cream and jam, a selection of cakes and chocolate all served with freshly brewed tea, or coffee.

Naturally, there is always the option to make it that little bit more decadent by adding in a glass of champagne.

The comfortable sofas, plush armchairs and elegant Georgian decor of Blackwood’s, part of the Nira Caledonia hotel, all make it an ideal spot for nibbles and a chat.

Traditional afternoon tea starts at £14.
