The Quay World Banquet at the Quay Complex in Musselburgh is the latest venture to combine the buffet restaurant model with a globe-spanning menu.
The Quay World Banquet is in a similar vein but doesn’t stop at pan-Asian dishes. ‘One kitchen, many cuisines’ is their strapline and they offer pizza, pasta, Indian, Chinese, sushi, Thai, a carvery, a burger station and vegetarian options as well as a kiddies’ corner, soups, salads and desserts.
The brainchild of serial entrepreneur and Secret Millionaire Charan Gill, MBE, and his daughter, Jaspreet, the duo have invested £160,000 in transforming the Quay’s restaurant and kitchen. Charan Gill is a familiar face on Scotland’s restaurant scene having founded the Ashoka chain.
Jaspreet Gill, director at The Quay, said: ‘The idea behind our World Banquet is to bring together various cuisines from different parts of the world so that when families are dining out there is no need for an argument about which restaurant to go to, because our World Banquet offers food to suit everyone’s tastes!’
Charan said: ‘The World Banquet fills the gap in the restaurant market created by the current economic climate for somewhere that families can eat delicious food in a welcoming environment with good service and a great atmosphere at a sensible, set price.
‘We have deliberately set our prices at a level to encourage families to come and dine with us on a regular basis rather than for special occasions only and, judging by the local response, our “one kitchen, many cuisines” concept is proving to be extremely popular.”
Prices at The Quay World Banquet start at £8.50 for a Monday to Saturday lunch rising to £13.99 for Friday and Saturday nights.
