Trooper Beer: it ain't heavy. It's more of a citrus-flavoured, hop-driven ale.

Beyoncé may have her perfume range and RiRi has designed a clothing line for River Island but if you’re a British rock band of a certain vintage then only your own beer will do.

A few weeks back, the 5pm blog enlightened readers with news of Motorhead’s own brand lager. Now Iron Maiden is muscling in on the booze market with an ale called The Trooper.

Named after one of the their most popular songs, the beer is described as having ‘malt flavours and citric notes from a unique blend of Bobec, Goldings and Cascade hops (which) dominate this deep golden ale with a subtle hint of lemon’.

Entrepreneur

The band’s singer, Bruce Dickinson, is no stranger to diversification. As well as leading a band which has sold nearly 90 million albums, he holds a commercial airline pilot licence and was instrumental in setting up Cardiff Aviation, an aircraft maintenance business. Dickinson discusses his new venture here.

Trooper is being brewed by Robinson’s brewery in Stockport. The firm has previous when it comes to beer and band tie-ins – they make Build a Rocket Boys, the beer named after their 2011 album.

Test run

The blog would happily test run a crate or two of Trooper but we do worry where all this brand extension will end.

How long before Jedward announce that they are to launch their own flavour of frozen yoghurt?
