Windows terrace

Father’s Day is just over a couple of weeks away and the more doting daughters and sons out there will already be planning their Dads’ presents.

The 5pm Blog has no experience of being a Dad but we’re pretty sure that some presents will go down better than others.

For example, if we had kids and they pitched up on Sunday the 16th of June with some comedy socks and an ironic bottle of Brut, then they might just find that their Christmas stocking were looking a little skinny come December.

Much more likely to raise a grin and possible even an increase in the pocket money is the Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea which is running in Windows Restaurant at the Carlton George in Glasgow.

Masculine twist

Held on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th of June, the traditional afternoon tea has been given a masculine twist.

Dainty cakes, nibbles and sandwiches with the crusts removed may be fine and dandy for the girls but the Gentleman’s Afternoon is geared towards more rugged tastes.

Chunky chips

You can see the full menu here but let’s just say that, among other goodies, it includes mini burgers with smoked cheddar and chutney; steak petit pain and chunky hand cut chips.

So far so good but what really caught your blogger’s eye was the glass of cognac and cigar included in the offer.

Rooftop terrace

Windows Restaurant is called Windows because it is on the rooftop of the hotel and has brilliant views across Glasgow’s skyline.

With the Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea, Dads can enjoy their food and then retire to Window’s rooftop terrace for a Martell cognac and cigar.

Now that’s what I call a Father’s Day present.

The Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea costs £25 ahead. It runs from noon-4pm on Sat 15/Sun 16 June.
