Glasgow’s just opened Meat Bar is a temple to all things porky and beefy

These are fun times to be alive if you love meat and live in Glasgow.

We’ve already written about Buddy’s BBQ and Burgers, the cracking takeaway on Skirving Street which is one of three finalists in the Best Takeaway category at the Scottish Restaurant Awards.

They have just announced plans to launch a 100 seat restaurant on Pollokshaws Road. Barbecue dishes; southern soul food and a wide selection of American craft beers are promised – all wrapped up in a decor which echoes the American roadside diners of the Fifties.

We’ll get more news closer the opening time.

On The Meat Bar beat

Meanwhile, in the city centre, The Meat Bar on West Regent Street has just opened for business and it is a temple to all things carnivorous.

As well as a range of meats smoked in bar’s own imported pit oven, their menu offers charcuterie and artisan burgers made with three different cuts of meat.

Each day, the butcher’s board sets out the steak specials – all made with 40 day, dry-aged Macduff beef.

Porky cocktails

The meat theme doesn’t stop at the food menu. Even some of the cocktails get porky. The 5pm blog has already touched on bacon-infused Old Fashioneds but the Meat Bar takes it all one step further.

Their Meatojito is made with fresh pineapple, brown sugar, mint… and aged rum infused with pork rib. The dish is served with a caramelised pork rib.

Fresh pinappple, brown sugar, mint, pork… what’s not to like?
