The scene is set for Burgher Burger to return to The Signet Library in Edinburgh

The run-up to the Edinburgh Festival is always a lively time for the capital’s eating and drinking scene.

Existing businesses scrub up for the crowds of visitors; new places race to open in time and the city’s more inventive culinary entrepreneurs start planning their latest manoeuvres.

Firmly in the last of those three camps are the good people behind Jelly + Gin. You may remember that Jelly + Gin ran a series of Burgher Burger nights in Edinburgh.

The idea was that a name chef would create a three course menu based around their interpretation of a burger. The meal would then be served in unlikely surrounds.

The Signet Library

One of the biggest Burgher Burger hits took place last Festival when they held a night in The Signet Library on the High Street.

Working on the basis that if it went with a swing once then it probably will again, Burger Burgher are returning to The Signet Library in August for four dates.

Posh with Pommery

For these events, Burgher Burger are going posh with Pommery. In addition to a cocktail on arrival, each diner will have a half bottle of Pommery Champagne to sip with their three course dinner.

The menu is:

Starter: Chicken and corn soup with popcorn and polenta bread

Main: Beef burger with horseradish sour roll, deep-fried panko covered potato balls, chilli chutney and charred onions

Dessert: Pear and Drambuie tiramisu

Communal seating

As is often the case with Burgher Burger nights, seating is communal so guests should wear their chatty hats – often good advice during Festival season anyway.

Tickets cost £55 a head and arrival time is 7.45pm. Burgher Burger is being held on the 5th/6th and 12th/13th August. The link to the tickets is on the Burgher Burger website.
