Foraged foods are all the fashion at Edinburgh Larder Bistro

Edinburgh Larder Bistro, a 5pm Restaurants member, on Alva Street is celebrating its first birthday with a complete refurbishment.

Currently closed, the West End bistro will re-open on Monday with a week-long schedule of special events.

Lobster pot lights

The new look is still being hammered, sawed and painted into place but we are promised a deli shop showcasing seasonal produce which leads in to the bar, dining and conservatory areas. Lobster pot light pendants and a very leafy conservatory are said to be among the design features.

Ethical sourcing

These days, any venue that serves food is missing a trick if they don’t underline their commitment to ethically sourced, local and seasonal food. Edinburgh Larder Bistro walks the walk as well as it talks the talk.

Next week’s series of events is designed to showcase that ethos: Here’s the line-up:

Afternoon tea on Monday 29th from noon-2.30pm in the conservatory. Look out for a sweet selection of savoury treats with carefully selected, rare Eteaket teas. Price £15 per person or £20 including a Hendricks cocktail.

Edinburgh Larder goes East on Tuesday 30th July with the aim of fusing Scottish and Indian culinary traditions. Beremeal naans and venison curry anyone? The event starts at 7pm, costs £25 per person and includes a talk and beer from Andrew Barnett of Barney’s Brewery.

Cocktails in the Greenhouse. Event starts at 6pm on Wednesday 31st July in the re-furbished conservatory. Seasonal cocktails using foraged ingredients is the theme. The event will be led by Robin from Lucky Liquor Co. Price £15 for two cocktails with nibbles.

Local foraged dinner. At this dinner, all the ingredients of the meal come from within the EH postcodes. Suppliers will include Royal Edinburgh Community Gardens, Gorgie Farm and Natural Selection Brewing. Takes place on Thursday 1st August from 5.30pm and costs costing £20 for two courses and £25 for three.

Seafood lunch. Tuck into a seafood feast with crab from North Berwick and local langoustines. Pick from a selection of fresh salads from the summer salad table. Takes place on Friday 2nd August from noon.  Tickets are £20 per person or £27.50 with a glass of Britain’s alternative to champagne, English Court Garden Bubbles.

A Festival brunch will kick of Edinburgh’s festivals on Sunday 4th August from noon. Watch out for poached eggs with Peelham Farm bacon on homemade muffins with Mull cheddar sauce and foraged herbs. Brunch will be available on Sundays throughout August from noon.
