The Bread Street Brasserie at Edinburgh’s Point Hotel has been refurbished

The Bread Street Brasserie, part of Edinburgh’s Point Hotel, has just had a top to toe makeover and is looking rather swish.

A preview at the recently re-opened restaurant revealed an airy space with floor to ceiling windows; a new bar and some rather funky, high-backed chairs.

Refurbished

The menus have also been revamped. The 5pm Restaurants blog can happily recommend the confit Shetland salmon. It comes with a pea puree and summer vegetable salad.

Mine arrived beautifully presented and was just the trick for freshening up the taste buds on yet another swelteringly hot day. Not that I’m complaining.

Given the heat, I should have followed in the footsteps of my other half and had the Pimms, orange and strawberry jelly which came studded with Scottish strawberries and topped with Chantilly cream.

Instead, I had a thick, dark, Belgian chocolate cake floating on caramel sauce and accompanied by a quenelle of vanilla ice cream.

It was totally unsuitable for the weather but absolutely stunning and had me purring ‘Non, je ne regrette rien’.

Pre-theatre offer

The two course lunch or pre-theatre deal at £9.95 also looks good value.

Obvs, the Usher Hall, Lyceum, Trav and Filmhouse are all within a very short toddle of the Bread Street Brasserie.

It looks  a natural choice for a bite before seeing shows at any of those venues when the Festival rolls around in two weeks time.

Jazz supper

Should you need any more reasons to drop by then the Bread Street Brasserie are running a summer jazz night on Thursday 25th July.

For £35 a head, you can enjoy a cocktail, three course meal and live jazz from Blu Velvet.
