Beers such as Hoggleys’ Pump Fiction are amng the starting line-up at Growler Beers

These are exciting times for craft ale lovers. The 5pm blog has blethered copiously about new brew bars such as Inn Deep, The Hanging Bat and The Vintage.

We’ve kept an eye on dynamic brewers such as the Williams Bros and, of course, BrewDog. New micro-breweries, such as Edinburgh’s imminent Pilot, are popping up almost every week in Scotland.

Beer boom

Naturally, there has been a corresponding boom in bloggers writing about real ale’s renaissance. One of the longest running is the BeerCast which is always on top of any Scottish beer news.

The latest arrival at the party is Growler Beers UK which aims to open soon Edinburgh’s Morningside.

From cask to growler

The idea behind Growlers is that craft ale lovers can wander in, browse Growlers’ selection of cask beers and ciders, then take home their picks in a refillable glass container or growler.

The growlers range in size from one to three litres. They are resealable and, when kept in the fridge, should keep the contents in good nick for at least a week.

Hard to find beers

According to Growlers’ founder, Stuart Dinning, the shop will be offering many beers which aren’t bottled and are hard to find in pubs. Many of them are seasonal and, once they are drunk, that’s the end of them.

Growler Beers went before the licensing board earlier this week and got their off sales licence. They are currently hard at work converting a former hairdressing salon into a beer emporium.

All being well, they should launch later this month.
