Bar Soba on Hanover Street in Edinburgh: the quiet before the storm

The 5pm Blog is tipping its hat to Edinburgh’s Bar Soba after the Hanover Street venue has pulled off an audacious Fringe coup.

As the Edinburgh Festivals prepare to launch, the award-winning cocktail bar and pan-Asian restaurant has unveiled a stonking line-up of top DJs who will be playing in the bar every Thursday during the festival.

3am party

Astonishingly, entry is free all night with Bar Soba’s house being well and truly rocked until 3am.

The DJ sets, which range from house and hip hop to garage and disco, kick off this Thursday with an appearance from the founding member of X-Press 2: Ashley Beedle.

Daddy G

The Thursday after that will see Al Doyle from Hot Chip followed by Daddy G of Massive Attack on the following Thursday.

Garage star Artful of Artful Dodger is DJing on Thursday 22nd and and Jerry Dammers, formerly of The Specials, brings the party to a close on Thursday 29th of August.

Free entry

Did we mention that it’s FREE entry for all of the nights?

Brad Stevens, Managing Director of Bar Soba and The St Judes Collection, said: ‘We’re excited to announce such unique line-up of DJs for the festival, the sessions give music lovers the rare opportunity to enjoy extraordinary talent in an intimate bar environment.

‘It’s been a huge investment to bring acts like Massive Attack and Hot Chip to Edinburgh and one that reflects our passion for music. Bar Soba boasts the Funktion 1 club sound-system, which is the best on the market so the sound quality really is superb for these DJs.

Here’s the line-up again:

Hot Chip – 8th August

Daddy G of Massive Attack – 15th August
