Glasgow will be jumping during Piping Live!

If the sound of the pipes and the whiff of haggis in the air get your blood racing then you’re in for a treat over the next few days.

Starting on Sunday, Piping Live! is taking over Glasgow for a week long celebration of pipe music and Scottish culture. Some 30,000 spectators are expected to attend around 150 events.

This is the event’s tenth birthday and the organisers have pulled out all the stops to make it a real humdinger.

The Worlds in Glasgow

The whole shebang will culminate in the World Pipe Band Championships held at Glasgow Green next weekend.

Before The Worlds, there is a packed schedule of events taking place at several Glasgow venues including the festival’s hub at St Enoch Square.

As well as daily pipe band performances, there will be Street Cafe gigs, come and try sessions plus the talent-spotting glories of Pipe Idol.

Haggis eating championships

Naturally, there are lots of fun events taking place on the food front. Hungry Hamishes will be in training for the haggis eating championships which take place next Friday afternoon at the National Piping Centre.

Those with more modest appetites will want to drop in at the Glasgow Restaurant Association Showcase which is held each day between 11am and 2pm in the Glenfiddich Tent at St Enoch Square.

Free taster sessions

Each day, two of the GRA’s restaurants will be holding a free taster session. Metropolitan and Arisaig get things underway on Monday.

Glasgow Dinearound

To help celebrate Piping Live’s birthday, 5pm have teamed up with Glasgow Dinearound to offer brilliant deals at some of Glasgow’s top restaurants.

Available until the 31st of August, participating restaurants are offering two or three course dinners for £15.95

You can access the full list from here but the restaurants taking part include Two Fat Ladies at The Buttery, Barolo Grill, Guy’s and Di Maggio’s.
