The Virgin Money Fireworks will bring the International Festival to a spectacular close

The 5pm Dining blog always has mixed emotions about the closing weekend of the Fringe. The circus officially comes to an end on Monday and, like the end of a really good party, it usually provokes a bitter sweet combination of relief and regret.

While the Fringe finishes on Monday, the Edinburgh International Festival continues until Sunday 1st September.

Once more, the Festival’s final flourish will come in the form of the Virgin Money Fireworks display at Edinburgh Castle on Sunday night.

Pompadour and pyrotechnics

If you really want to make a meal of the evening then The Pompadour by Galvin is opening on Sunday 1st September to celebrate the end of the Festival.

Their Castle-facing windows will provide one of Edinburgh’s most luxurious viewing points from which to watch the pyrotechnics.

They are running two specially designed menus for the occasion.

Pompadour birthday meal

Ten days later, Chris and Jeff Galvin will be in town to celebrate the first birthday of The Pompadour by Galvin.

The Michelin-starred brothers are doing a book signing at Waterstone’s on George Street from 6-7pm on Wednesday 11 September.

After that, they are hosting a hosting a special dinner at The Pompadour with readings from their book, A Cookbook de Luxe.

Champagne and canapés

The evening starts with champagne and canapés in the salon at 7 for 7.30pm and is followed by a five course dinner.

The evening costs £58 for champagne, canapés and dinner and, if you really want to push the boat out, you could pay an additional £35 for five wines to pair with each course.
