The Castle view from the Sky bar in the Point Hotel

As we noted earlier this week, Sunday will see the end of this year’s International Festival in Edinburgh. Once more, the event will be marked with a spectacular fireworks display over Edinburgh Castle.

The 5pm Dining blog pointed out that The Pompadour by Galvin at the Caledonian, a Waldorf Astoria Hotel, was running a special fireworks dinner.

If you fancy catching the action from a different viewpoint then think about taking the lift to the Sky bar in the Point Hotel on Bread Street.

Edinburgh skyline

We have written about the hotel’s stunning Sky bar before but, for anyone who missed that blog, it is a penthouse bar with massive windows looking out over Edinburgh’s skyline, a view which is dominated by the Castle.

The Sky bar will be open 7pm-11pm on Sunday and entry is free. Weather permitting, there will be a BBQ and, of course, a wide range of beers, wines and cocktails for sale.

Scottish Food and Drink Fortnight

The Sky bar opening for the fireworks is not the only intriguing development at the Point Hotel. The recently refurbished Bread Street Brasserie at the hotel also has a couple of fun events coming up over the next few weeks.

On Thursday 12 September, the Brasserie is hosting a vegan night at £15 for three courses.

A week later, on Thursday 19th September, as part of the Scottish Food and Drink Fortnight, the restaurant is laying on a five course tasting menu at a cost of £30 a head.

Designed to showcase the best Scottish produce, the tasting menu can be paired with matched flights of wine.
