While stoically resisting the ‘Two Fat Ladies go doon the watter’ headline, the 5pm Dining blog would like to wish the Two Fat Ladies group of restaurants the best of luck as they launch a new restaurant in the four star Marine Hotel in Troon.

Two Fat Ladies at The Marine will have 110 seats and overlook the Royal Troon golf course. Scheduled to open in late September/early October, it will be the first Two Fat Ladies restaurant outside of Glasgow. The Two Fat Ladies brand is owned by restaurateur Ryan James while The Marine Hotel is part of the Puma Collection.

City dining, West Coast setting

New head chef, Andrew Beattie, has over a decade of creative cooking experience, including stints with the Two Fat Ladies group. The restaurant will bring the best of city dining to the coast, serving seasonally inspired menus including the freshest seafood coupled with locally sourced meat and game.

Typical dishes on the menu are likely to include flash-fried West Coast scallops with spiced dhal and lime coriander sour cream; whole lemon sole with smoked bacon and tomato butter and, among the desserts, glazed strawberries and raspberries with a cherry brandy sabayon and peach ice cream.

New restaurant manager and Troon local, Ashley Hardcastle, will head up a 20-strong team of skilled waiting staff. The Marine is currently recruiting and hope to attract the very best in the area at all levels, both for the restaurant and the kitchen.

Partner with Puma

Ryan James said: ‘We have been considering expanding for a while and the introduction of our first venue outside of the city could not have found a better partner than Puma Hotels. The stunning setting at The Marine will be an idyllic backdrop to our menus. Those that already know us will be able to enjoy our experience at a new location, whilst those that are new to the Two Fat Ladies will find this the perfect introduction.’
