Will you be quaffing Chinese wine soon?

Some people used to state a preference for Old or New World wines. Now that wines from China, India and Armenia are gaining more prominence the ‘Old World’ and ‘New World’ tags are looking rather dated.

Being interested in Uruguayan wines is no longer cutting edge when Macedonian Zilavka is beginning to make a splash.

Up-and-coming wine countries

If you would like to get your tongue around the up-and-coming wine countries of the world then you may be interested in Rose Murray Brown’s Emerging Wine Countries Masterclass which takes place Abode on Glasgow’s Bath Street on Thursday 31st October.

Rose will be guiding drinkers through some thirteen wines from countries such as Turkey, Greece, Lebanon, Georgia, Croatia, Macedonia, Armenia, India and even China. Sparkling wines, dry whites, juicy reds and full bodied stickies are all on the menu along with a finger buffet.

Master of Wine

Rose, a Master of Wine, will talk the crowd through the wine regions of the countries; discuss their grape varieties and the wines they produce.

You don’t need any prior wine knowledge to enjoy Rose’s classes. The 5pm Dining blog has done a couple and they are good fun – all you need to bring along is a sense of curiosity and a bit of a thirst.

Tickets are £40 a head and the event runs 7.30pm-9.30pm. More info here.

‘Kenats’y!’ as they say in Armenia.
