Today is a sad day for Glasgow’s Indian restaurants but let’s not cry over spilled masala

Not Glasgow. Sadly.

Now in its eleventh year, The Curry Capital of Britain is an annual event which aims to find the British city with the finest concentration of Indian restaurants.

It has just been announced that Bradford has taken the top gong for the third year in a row. Glasgow came a close second while Wolverhampton made third.

Glasgow four times winner

Glasgow last won the competition in 2010 although it has won the top spot a remarkable four times in the past.

The 5pm Dining blog contacted Trampy and The Tramp’s Glasgow of Curry for a reaction and this is what the burly cheerleaders for Glasgow’s curry scene had to say:

Trampy: ‘We’re all about breaking out of old habits and trying something new at Trampy and The Tramp’s Glasgow of Curry so I can’t say I’m thrilled by the apparent gridlock on the Curry Capital podium – that’s the same top three result since 2011.

Curry excellence

‘But at least it points to consistency in curry excellence. So well done to Bradford, and to everyone involved in the Glasgow bid for placing a very respectable second. We enjoy a friendly rivalry with the Wolverhampton campaign so I’ll just say this: nae luck!’

Glasgow’s brilliant Indian restaurants

As ever, the 5pm Dining blog has no hesitation in recommending Glasgow’s many, brilliant Indian restaurants. The full 5pm selection can be browsed from here.

If you click over to the 5pm Takeaway blog then we have the full response from Trampy and The Tramp’s Glasgow of Curry.

Incidentally, the tramps’ online love letter to all things curry is five years old in November.

Look out for a spicy low down on the 5pm Dining blog.
