The Bothy in Edinburgh has an eye-catching design

The 5pm Dining blog knows very little about rugby. However, that ain’t going to stop us from sprinkling this post about developments at Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Hotel with rugby-related puns and gags. It’s just that they will be very poor. Brace yourselves.

The Corstorphine Road hotel is currently being renovated, or indeed converted (Boom!) into a fresh new hotel with bar and restaurant. One of the first developments to emerge from the scrum (Kapow!) of builders is The Bothy Restaurant and Drinkery.

Local residents

Aimed squarely at local Murrayfield residents and, of course visitors to the nearby stadium, it is a gastropub which is proud to serve a traditional pub menu.

Dirty dogs, BBQ pork and artisan burgers may be sweeping the capital’s hipper boozers but, at The Bothy, diners can tackle good honest steak and ale pies; fish ‘n’ chips; Cullen skink and filled jacket potatoes. Steaks, proper puddings and a range of hearty breakfasts complete the line out (!).

Eye-catching interior

Designer Jim Hamilton, responsible for Tigerlily in Edinburgh and Blythswood Square Hotel in Glasgow, has given the venue an eye-catching interior which mixes contemporary leather seating and exposed stone walls with black and white photos of city scenes.

Themed evenings

The Bothy Restaurant and Drinkery has scheduled a variety of themed evenings to entertain all ages. As well as Sunday jazz afternoons and live bands at the weekends, there are plans afoot for a children’s ceilidh.

‘Back of the net!’ as they say at Murrayfield Stadium. Possibly.
