Eberle Winery: Friday won’t be boar-ing evening

Arisaig in Glasgow’s Merchant Square is running a wine dinner this Friday with California’s renowned Eberle Winery.

The vineyard was set up by Gary Eberle way back in the Seventies and has since gone on to scoop several awards.

Mr Eberle is an engaging character. He started out on a football scholarship which enabled him to pursue an academic career in the sciences.

Like many an undergrad, he developed an interest in wine. Unlike most students, he decided to make a career of it and has been pioneering his own path in California ever since.

Haunted Caves

His wines regularly score well in Wine Spectator tastings and, while he is serious about producing the best wines that he can, Mr Eberle is not above having some fun at the same time. His wine caves are currently dressed for Halloween and his tasting room is serving up some Ca-Boo!-nay.

Viking longship

The vineyard also appears s to have a 1954 Chevy truck, Buck the Truck, which seems to have been transformed into a Viking longship for this year’s harvest.

As, I said, it promises to be an interesting evening.

Tickets are £35 per head for a four course gourmet dinner with four paired Eberle wines and plenty of chat from Robert Flory, Eberle Wine’s ambassador.

Things get underway from 7pm, this Friday at Arisaig.
