Innis and Gunn Toasted Oak IPA: goes well with porky scratchings

It’s Friday, a day when many of us will be considering the best way to wash the working week out of our hair.

The 5pm Dining blog will be content with a nice cup of chamomile tea and watching all the editions of Pointless which we recorded earlier this week.

Toasted Oak IPA

For those who fancy something a little more potent, the good people at Innis & Gunn have been busy with two new bottled brews: Toasted Oak IPA and the Innis & Gunn Lager, which was released on draught earlier this year.

The Toasted Oak IPA comes in at 5.6%ABV and is a triple-hopped brew matured for 41 days over specially toasted American oak heartwood chips. The beer is finished over toasted oak to give it a rich, rounded quality which is apparently true to the character of the original 19th century IPAs.

Spicy curries

The brewers reckon that it goes particularly well with spicy curries, salty pork crackling and fried chicken – a recommendation that covers most of the major food groups.

Stoli goes spooky

We also liked the new glow in the dark bottle that Stolichnaya are releasing in to the on-trade this month.

Launched to coincide with Hallowe’en, the Stoli® Night Edition absorbs light during the day and then luminesces when the lights go out.

Stoli reckon that it is ‘perfect for party-goers who want to unleash their wild side’. We couldn’t help but think that it would also be useful for those occasions when one wakes in the middle of the night in need of a snifter but doesn’t want to risk waking the missus by putting the light on.
