We’ve rounded up our favourite “did you know?” facts about our hotels below.

Parishioners

Established in 1601, The Kirkhouse Inn in Strathblane was located at the west of the local church. The inn was a welcome respite for parishioners who who would stop in for a lunchtime break after attending a long church sermon in the morning – before returning in the afternoon for a few more hours of church. Nowadays the inn serves as a luxurious hotel that keeps its history alive.

Whirlpool

Just off the coast of The Galley Of Lorne Hotel is the Corryvreckan – the third largest whirlpool in the world.

The roof of Culcreuch Castle near Stirling is said to host the largest colony of bats in the UK.

Hunting lodge

Moness Hotel is the oldest building in Aberfeldy. It dates back to 1787 when it used to be a hunting lodge.

£59 per couple for an overnight stay at the 4* Moness House Hotel & Resort, Aberfeldy or £105 for a 2 night stay. 

Three US presidents

Three American presidents have stayed at Lodge on Loch Lomond: Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and George Bush Snr.

Queen Victoria

Ballachulish Hotel in Glencoe had a very famous guest in Queen Victoria, who described the hotel as “beautiful” in her diary.

Hospital

In 1916 Mar Hall was used as a hospital for limbless sailors and soldiers. It’s now a five star hotel which has had guests such as Brad Pitt, Halle Berry and Coldplay.
