Calistoga

Perhaps we are just grumpy this morning but the 5pm Dining blog is not big on celebrating Thanksgiving in the UK. It seems like hijacking another country’s customs.

Naturally, we make an exception for the Edinburgh restaurant Calistoga. Specialising in Californian food and wine, the Rose Street North Lane restaurant has long marked Thanksgiving with a cracking wine fair and dinner.

Sixth Thanksgiving wine fair

Their sixth Thanksgiving bash takes place on Thursday 28th of November and, if you love Cali food and appreciate their wines, then you know where to head next week.

With some 72 wines on show, the wine fair and buffet takes place just across from Calistoga from 5.30pm. The associated dinner is in the restaurant from 8pm.

Keen prices

Of course, the wines will be available for sale as well as tasting and many will be at a keen price should you wish to stock up for Christmas.

A few years back, Calistoga won the Best Speciality category at the Scottish Restaurant Awards on account of their enlightened wine policy.

In the restaurant, diners who buy a bottle of wine are charged just £5 above the retail price which means that you can drink some fantastic Cali wines for less then you would pay for a box standard house wine in may other places.

Three course dinner

There are several options for Thanksgiving at Calistoga. You could simply enjoy the wines or you could taste the wine and have a two course buffet. the third option is to go to the wine tasting followed by the special three course dinner in the restaurant later that evening.

All the options, prices, menus and the wine list can be seen here.
