The 5pm Dining blog is getting excited about Serrano Manchego. A genuine Spanish-style bar, it is taking shape in the former Dalmeny Bar on Edinburgh’s Leith Walk.

Everyone is familiar with tapas. In fact, it could be argued that tapas style dining has been the dominant trend in UK restaurants over the last ten years. Whether or not Spanish people would recognise British tapas is another question altogether.

Pinchitos

Serrano Manchego seems keen to encourage a more authentic tapas experience. They will be serving pinchitos – bite-sized portions – of Iberico ham charcuterie, cheeses and croquettes over the bar. In keeping with the snacketas theme, Spanish beers, ciders and wines will be served in 1/3 pint schooners and 70ml wine glasses.

Authentic

Of course, pint glasses and larger wine glasses will also be available. Authenticity is one thing but not having pint glasses in a Leith Walk bar would be taking things too far.

From their Facebook page, it looks as though the old bar is getting quite an overhaul and Serrano Manchego isn’t scheduled to open until early 2014.

We’re already looking forward to their chorizo sandwich. Stuffed with piquillo peppers and rocket, it looks magnificent.
