[Texas comes to Dennistoun][1]
Texas comes to Dennistoun

Forget about Dutch tulip mania and leave aside the possible Bitcoin bubble, if you are looking for a bandwagon to jump on then the 5pm Dining blog suggests the BBQ rollercoaster.

As a new BBQ joint opens in Glasgow’s Dennistoun, it would appear that pulled pork is the only game in town.

The blog has blethered about Buddy’s BBQ & Burgers several times and we have noted the launch of Meat Bar, Burger Meats Bun, Jacker de Viande and Bread Meats Bread.

Insatiable appetite

They have all fuelled Glasgow’s seemingly insatiable appetite for smoked meats, burgers, wings and gourmet dogs.

The latest to join the slightly charred smelling throng is the Dennistoun Bar B Que on Duke Street.

It opened this weekend and, much like Buddy’s just over a year ago, demand for its Texan BBQ is outstripping demand; last night they were sold out by 6.30pm.

Pit beef

Pit beef and pork, burgers and ribs are the draw.

Curiously, Edinburgh has been much slower to join the rush. A couple of places have embraced the trend for artisan burgers and dogs but, as far as I know, nowhere has opened a BBQ joint which puts a smoker at the heart of the operation.

Give it time…

Hello Rollo

Meanwhile, in Edinburgh’s Stockbridge, almost directly across the road from Tom Kitchin’s Scran and Scallie, a new brasserie has opened.

With just 35 covers, Rollo is selling itself as a boutique restaurant and wine bar.

We’ll have more news as soon as I finish my Christmas shopping and schlepp over to Stockie.
