Urban’s poinsettia cocktail: will bring a glow to the cheeks

Christmas. A time for giving and also a time for inventing new cocktails.

The clever boys and girls behind the bar at Glasgow’s Urban Brasserie have come up with three new Crimbo concoctions which should sustain you through the sort of long and arduous shopping expeditions which are all too common at this time of year.

They are:

The Poinsettia:  billed as ‘a perfect festive fizz’, this is made with Urban’s house champers mixed with Grand Marnier and, everyone’s favourite Christmas berry, cranberry. The poinsettia is described as ‘Santa red in colour’ and tastes sublime. £8.95.

Apple and Gingerbread Mule: this is a seasonal twist on the bar’s signature Urban mule. Edmond Briottet gingerbread liqueur is combined with apple schnapps and ginger beer to create a refreshing, festive long drink. £6.95.

Mulled Wine:  ‘Sometimes the old ones are the best’ is not just a chat-up line at the Christmas party in the elderly care home . Packed to the brim with Christmas spices and pepped up with a shot of brandy, this classic is pretty much guaranteed to make sure that you come over all toasty. It costs £3.50 which includes a mince pie.

Christmas gift offer

If you are popping in to Urban for a cocktail or two then you might be tempted to take up Urban’s 5pm Christmas offer.

For £24, two people can look forward to a delicious three course meal in the new year. Vouchers are valid from the 2nd of January to the 3rd of March.

The words ‘stocking filler’ come to mind.
