Glasgow Cooks Better: buy it so you can cook better too.

Look out for copies of the new Glasgow Cooks Better recipe book which launches on the 18th of February.

It has been created by the Glasgow Restaurant Association (GRA) in support of The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice. The GRA have pledged to raise £100K to help build the kitchen in the new hospice facility being built at Bellahouston Park.

Scottish celebrities

Along with Glasgow Restaurant Association members, Scottish celebrities including Ken Stott, Alex Norton and Carol Smillie have contributed to the book. The recipes showcase some of the most popular dishes from many of Glasgow’s top restaurants including The Butchershop Bar & Grill, La Lanterna and Mother India.

Beautifully illustrated with vivid photography from Robin Mitchell, it captures the diversity of Glasgow’s ever changing restaurant scene.

Tam Cowan’s eggs

In particular, the 5pm Dining blog likes Tam Cowan’s recipe for micro-waved scrambled eggs. The book contains lots of recipes for beautiful looking dishes which will almost certainly taste divine. However, there is always space for a recipe where the ingredients list has only six items and two of them are salt and pepper.

5000 copies of the book have very kindly been printed by Bell & Bain printers as a donation to the project. All design work was donated by GCM Creative with photography supported by Robin Mitchell thus ensuring that 100% of the proceeds from the sales of the books go directly to the Hospice Appeal.

Try at home

The book costs £15 and includes lots of brilliant recipes to try at home. To purchase your copy of Glasgow Cooks Better, please contact Heather Manson at the Hospice on 0141 429 9855 or email heather.manson@ppwh.org.uk to order your copy. The books can be collected from the Hospice or mailed to you by adding £1 for postage per copy.

Finally, there are lots of good reasons for buying this book. First of all, there is the very worthwhile charity element and, of course, it also contains lots of tasty recipes.

This blogger has a particular soft spot for the Glasgow Cooks Better book because it has a fantastic pic of me on an Edinburgh rooftop.

If, in an idle moment, you have ever imagined what Mary Poppins might have looked like if she really let herself go then here is your chance to see that vision in the flesh.

The pic accompanies my recipe for pan-seared duck with warm Asian salad.
