Glasgow and Edinburgh: separated by just 40 miles but both have their own customs

5pm Dining have just launched a fun online survey looking at the different dining habits of restaurant-goers in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Win £100

You can take part in Glasgow Vs Edinburgh from here. One lucky participant will have their name plucked from an electronic hat and will win a £100 voucher to spend in the 5pm restaurant of their choice.

Already, the survey is highlighting considerable differences between the tastes of the two cities. For example, all of the Edinburgh residents who have responded so far say they prefer to eat in independent restaurants while just under a quarter or Glasgow respondents say they prefer to eat in chain restaurants.

60% like Italian

The differences between the two cities are more pronounced when looking at the types of cuisine favoured at each end of the M8. In Glasgow, a whopping 60% of respondents said that Italian was their favourite sort of food followed by Spanish and Mexican – both with 20%.

Edinburgh respondents had more diverse preferences with Indian claiming 29% of votes while Italian, Scottish, French, Mexican and Chinese all taking 14% each.

Fascinating stats

Now, we’ve just launched this survey so it would be daft to read too much into the figures just yet. However, as time goes on and more people take part, the survey is going to throw up some fascinating stats about our eating habits.

We’ll keep you posted on developments here on the 5pm Dining blog and remember, you can fill in the survey here and be in with a chance of winning a £100 voucher for a meal in your favourite 5pm restaurant.
