Altogether now: ‘I’ll have what she’s having’

This 5pm Dining blog scribbler takes a zero tolerance approach to food in cinemas. Sweets rustle, popcorn crunches and those nacho things smell like a zombie’s breath.

However, we will happily make an exception for the Street Food Cinema event taking place this weekend as part of Glasgow Film Festival. Street Food Cartel will be joining forces with the festival to pair four fab films with food from Antojito Cantina, pad BKK and So La Ti Dough.

Taking place at The Briggait from Friday 21 to Sunday 23 February, the event will see screenings of Goodfellas, Withnail & I, Ratatouille and When Harry Met Sally. Glasgow’s former fish market turned arts space will be decked out with a giant screen, comfy sofas and a full food service area.

Drink up

We don’t recommend it but real hardcore fans will be able to play the Withnail & I drinking game. All you have to do is have a drink every time one of the characters does. Most people give up, or pass out, before the action moves to Uncle Monty’s farmhouse.

The food’s orgasmic

The menu looks pretty enticing too. Whether or not it will induce noisy orgasms, in the style of When Harry Met Sally, remains to be seen. One imagines most chefs would be feeling pretty chipper if their food produced a similar reaction.

And it would certainly make a difference from muttering ‘Give my compliments to the chef’ to the waiter .
