[Kitsch is making waves at the new Pacific bar][1]
Kitsch is making waves at the new Pacific bar

It is all go in Glasgow at the moment. Last night saw the long awaited launch party of Hyde Bar on Partick Bridge Street. As well as an illuminated  Belvedere bottle tree, the bar features some fancy Dan cocktails.

The 5pm Dining blog likes the sound of the strawberry and black pepper mojito. We’re less sure about the beer cocktails. A julep made with honey, fresh basil, bourbon and Schiehallion lager may be lovely but there are lots of other combos which would take precedence.

As always, we are happy to be proved wrong.

On the food front, we hear that seafood is to be a speciality at Hyde.

Third Pinto

Also making waves at the moment are the Pinto people. The Mexican fast casual chain is to launch its third Glasgow branch on Hope Street on Tuesday. Apparently, they are giving away 1000 burritos on their first day. All you have to do is buy a drink.

Surf the Pacific

Heading back to the West End, Pacific has opened on Dumbarton Road in the former New York Kitchen premises.

It seems to be run by the same people behind the rather fab Tiki Bar and Kitsch Inn.

Big Kahuna burgers, tacos and Thais food are the focus of the menu while the drinks list is populated with some lively cocktails.

Don’t mean to be rude but does anyone fancy a Pacific Rim Job Volcano Bowl? They cost £20; are made to share and are brought to the table on fire.

We could list the ingredients but let’s just say that each one contains enough hooch to sedate a rugby team.
