Mark Greenaway is taking diners back to the future

What childhood foods would you like try again?

The 5pm Dining blog recently revisited Angel Delight. As a nipper, I thought that butterscotch Angel Delight was pretty much the height of sophistication.

To be honest, in 1970s Wales, it was.

Anyway, I tried it again recently. Horrible. Powdery. My childhood memories were shattered.

Peoples’ food memories are likely to have a much more enjoyable ride on Wednesday 26th February when the chef Mark Greenaway launches his Bistro Moderne Dining Club.

Taste bud time travel

On the last Wednesday of every month, Bistro Moderne, his new 80-seater restaurant, will be given over to serving a unique menu of favourite dishes from different eras. Of course, Mark will be giving each dish his own unique culinary twist.

First up is a journey back in time to 1984, where the menu will be:

Prawn Cocktail

Chicken Kiev

Fish Fingers, Potato Waffles and Beans

Black Forest Gâteau

The 4 courses cost £35 per person with advance booking advisable.

**Baked Alaska for the 21st century

Chef Greenaway’s cooking is often playful and his dishes are often designed to surprise. If going back to 1984 doesn’t appeal then you may want to try the chef’s cooking at his flagship Restaurant Mark Greenaway.

We like the sound of his futuristic take on the classic baked Alaska made with salt baked pineapple, green tea sponge, coconut meringue, lime espuma and vanilla ice cream.
