The contemporary interior at La Bonne Auberge

For a sizable proportion of new restaurants, they can expect the sort of life span experienced by Mayflies.

Here today – all shiny and enthusiastic – they are often shuttered up  and looking forlorn two months later.

But while the restaurant business has always been tough, there are a few canny operators who have found the magic formula that keeps customers coming back for years. Or even decades.

One such veteran is La Bonne Auberge which has been delighting Glaswegians with its take on French and Mediterranean cooking for just under 40 years.

First opened in 1975, La Bonne Auberge enjoys not just a convenient location for Glasgow’s Theatreland but also a successful knack for keeping their offer fresh and perky.

Contemporary

A 2012 refurbishment gave the restaurant a swish and contemporary new look while the menus are always evolving.

Proud holders of an AA rosette, the restaurant has recently unveiled its latest set and a la carte menus.

Conceived by award-winning Executive Head Chef, Gerry Sharkey, the restaurant’s new prix fixe menu offers starters such as pressed seafood terrine and rich chicken liver parfait.

Mains include the leek and pepper and goats cheese tartlet; pan-fried cod loin; pan-fried chicken breast and grilled Gressingham duck breast.

The new a la carte menu features starters like the twice-baked cheese soufflé; Macsween haggis bon bons; La Bonne Auberge fish soup and smoked duck breast.

La Bonne Auberge choucroute

Main courses include a warm chick pea, corn and herb potato cake; pan fried salmon; choucroute La Bonne Auberge; chargrilled honey and thyme poussin; fillet of lemon sole and loin of venison, while its celebrated grill menu features rib-eye, sirloin and fillet steak.

The restaurant is also running some tasty 5pm Dining offers. £49.95 will see two diners enjoy three courses from the prix fixe menu plus a bottle of wine.
