5pm customer Jacqueline Young is a keen visitor to restaurants in the Merchant City and we wanted to know just why she loves it so much, so asked her a few questions.
What do you most like about the Merchant City?
I like the area and the variety of bars and restaurants plus I think the Merchant City caters for all age groups. Any time I visit I always feel that there is a really good atmosphere.
What’s your favourite 5pm restaurant in the Merchant City and why?
I love Guy’s Restaurant on Candleriggs. It’s fabulous, the food is excellent and the staff are lovely, they really look after you.
We were there one time on a Thursday evening and there was a lovely singer who also played the piano, it’s a great experience.
What’s your one absolute favourite or memorable dish in a 5pm restaurant in the Merchant City.
I love the ‘Glasgow Tapas’ dish in Guys [Mini steak pie, mince ‘n tatties, MacSween’s Haggis and chips], it’s delicious and so original, I tell everyone about it.
What do you most like about dining and going out in the Merchant City?
The area is buzzing and has a great atmosphere. The courtyard in Merchant Square is really good, I love all the cobbles and the way it combines the old nad new plus it sometimes hosts live music which is always entertaining.
Describe your perfect day in the Merchant City.
A lovely sunny day, sitting outside, relaxing and enjoying a glass of wine, having a little wander around and then having dinner in one of the numerous restaurants.
