With so many bars and restaurants in the West End it can be difficult to know which one to choose for your night out. Here’s five reasons we suggest Hillhead Bookclub.

The food

Line your stomach before a night of drinking with the hearty home style food available at Hillhead Bookclub. Dishes include fish and chips, pork and black pudding bangers and mash and a range of burgers, salads and sandwiches served on mismatched crockery. There’s also a veggie menu for the animals lovers out there. The best thing is the dining deals Hillhead Bookclub have on offer: £11 for two courses plus a glass of wine. Perfect when you’re a student and money is a bit tight.

The drinks

Hillhead Bookclub have loads of drink promos but not the paint stripper vodka or beer no one else’s ever heard of promos you usually find in student haunts; a strawberry gin or vodka mojito costs just £3 all week, Martin Miller’s Gin (widely considered to be the best gin on the market) plus mixer is only £2 from Sunday to Wednesday and the rum of the week (previous rums have been Pampero, Brugal and Mount Gay) is also only £2 from Sunday to Wednesday. No nonsense beer drinkers will appreciate a pint of Tennent’s for £2.50 from Sunday to Wednesday too.

The music

Music is the backdrop to any night out and Hillhead Bookclub places a huge importance on playing tunes that cause your shoulders to shimmy as you sip your drinks. DJ’s are a the helm from Wednesday to Sunday and the bar also encourage aspiring disk jockeys to hand in their mix tapes over the bar.

Events

From ping pong tournaments to sewing lessons to vintage markets, Hillhead Bookclub is constantly hosting awesome events. We particularly like the sound of the renegade bingo on the 4th Wednesday of the month. Not only is bingo amazing, there’s a £500 cash prize and vodka, gin, rum and whisky costs only £2 from the bar.

The surroundings

Built as a swanky cinema in 1913, the Hillhead Bookclub building is just gorgeous, with an equally as stunning interior. It’s a huge space, with a raised mezzanine level, lengthy bar and tons of tables and sofa. Our favourite feature is the curved ornate ceiling.

£11 for 2 courses on bookclub set menu + glass of wine or £18 for 3 courses on graduation menu + glass of Prosecco from Hillhead Bookclub when booking on 5pm.co.uk.
