A burger: expect to see more of them very soon.

Towards the end of last year/beginning of this one, the 5pm Dining blog was stroking its beard and pondering if or when Edinburgh would go burger and BBQ crazy in the same way that Glasgow had.

As Just Burgers and Beers beds into the Royal Mile, we think that question has been answered.

Burger invasion

The new restaurant, from the same stable as The Newsroom Bar according to our chums at STV, is just the latest in a long line of recently launched or imminent burger/BBQ-led ventures.

Clerks Bar, Frontier, Burger Meats Bun and a rumoured second branch of Burger have all either opened in the last couple of months or are poised to do so.

Perfectly located to pick up the tourist trade, Just Burgers and Beers almost does what it says on the tin.

As well as a small selection of relatively unpimped burgers, they serve ten speciality versions.

These range from the The Frying Scotsman – a burger served on a glazed white bun with a haggis fritter, beer battered onion rings, cheddar and beer mustard – to The Kraftwerk – a burger served on a glazed white bun with bratwurst sausage, Danish blue, caramelized onions, gherkins and beer mustard.

Freestyle your burger

Customers can also freestyle their own burgers.

These can all be washed down with a pretty decent selection of bottled beers from around the world, wines, ciders and hard liquor.

Unusually, they also serve a handful of fruit beers.

I’ve tried Belgian kriek or cherry beer but Mongozo coconut beer is a new one to me.

As well as the burgers, there are wings, dogs and, of course, pulled pork on offer.
