Vodka? From a bread van? Mais oui.

Grey Goose vodka is behind a fun pop-up which will be appearing on Edinburgh’s Multree Walk later this month.

From Thursday 17th to Saturday 19th, the Grey Goose Boulangerie François will be parked up on what we should really call le Boulevard Multree. From the outside, it looks like an ordinary French bread van.

However, the lucky few who are invited inside will discover the world’s most intimate martini bar.

Personalised martini

Designed by restaurant interior expert du jour Shayne Brady, the luxury martini bar will be available for pre-booked appointments at which guests can experience a personalised martini cocktail consultation by Grey Goose Ambassador Oli Blackburn.

After being guided through a series of surprising taste experiments, the perfect martini will be served to suit the guest’s taste. You can book an appointment online via www.greygoose.com from tomorrow, Tuesday 1st July.

Pourquoi le pain?

But why a bread van, or camionnette as our French chums might have it?

The van will be stocked with an art installation of Grey Goose artisan breads made using the same ingredients that the vodka is crafted from; namely soft winter wheat from Picardie and spring water naturally filtered through Champagne limestone from the Cognac region.

Where it all started

Naturellement, the van is called the Boulangerie François after François Thibault, the man who started Grey Goose:

‘In the beginning, I was considered a maverick, even an eccentric, for trying to make vodka in historic Cognac, France, from wheat no less,’ explains Monsieur Thibault. ‘There were many naysayers and sceptics, and all were waiting for me to fail, but I knew I could prove them wrong and create a product that tasted unlike anything available.

‘I’ve worked hard to create a spirit of outstanding quality and character. It is the world’s best because it is made like no other and feels exceptionally smooth in a dry martini or in other cocktails.’
